We have some exciting news in KidZone: We just finished our study of the entire Old Testament! We started in Genesis back in April 2024, and now we have completed our lessons about the prophets and the people returning from exile back to the land of Israel. So this past Sunday, we started our study of the New Testament! Our kids will be learning about Jesus’ birth, His dedication in the Temple, and His baptism and temptation in the next few weeks.
Our curriculum is called The Gospel Project, and here are the 3 things I like the most about it:
- It teaches the whole Bible, cover-to-cover, over the course of 3 years.
- Each lesson has a Bible Story Picture that we use to build a timeline on the classroom wall each week.
- Every lesson points to Jesus!
You might wonder how every lesson could point to Jesus, so I thought I’d share a few examples. During our study of the Old Testament, our kids learned that:
- In the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve were promised a Rescuer Who would one day crush the serpent’s head (Genesis 3:15), which would ultimately be Jesus.
- When God gave the 10 commandments in Exodus 20, we learned we could never keep God’s law perfectly ourselves, but we can trust in Jesus’ obedience on our behalf.
- When Saul became the first king of Israel (1 Samuel 11), we learned human kings make mistakes, but Jesus is the ultimate and perfect King.
- As we studied the prophets (including Isaiah, Jeremiah, Nehemiah, Ezra and more), we learned God keeps His promises to rescue and save His people from captivity and ultimately would send Jesus to save us from our sins.
Please come by a KidZone classroom sometime to take a look at our timeline of Old Testament lessons or, if you know a kid at Good News, you can ask them about their favorite stories so far.
And if you’ve read this far, I wanted to ask you to please pray for 2 groups in KidZone:
- Please pray for our volunteers as they love our kids and teach them these truths. Please ask God to continue to call additional volunteers and teachers. We always have a need for more people to do the work of this important ministry.
- Please pray for our kids. We work to prepare and plant the seeds of God’s Word in their hearts, but ultimately God is the One Who makes it grow. We pray that our kids will know God’s Word, place their trust in Him, and follow Jesus for their whole lives.
Our goal is actually printed on the wall in the KidZone building, that we can continue to say: “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.” (3 John 1:4)
